Akwa Group
The Akwa Group SA . (formerly Groupe Afriquia) is a Moroccan conglomerate with headquarters in Casablanca . The company is primarily active in the oil and gas sector. Other business areas are telecommunications, tourism, hotels and real estate. Rest areas are also operated under the name Afriquia.
history
In 1932 the founder of Afriquia, Ahmed Ouldhadj Akhannouch opened his first gas station. His business grew very quickly thanks to his keen entrepreneurship.
The company was founded in 1959 as Afriquia SMDC ( Société Marocaine de Distribution de Carburants). The conglomerate Groupe Afriquia was founded in the 1990s. Subsidiaries were Maghreb Oxygène and Afriquia Gaz. The company changed its name to Akwa Group in March 2002.
Business areas
Gasoline and auto services
The subsidiary Afriquia SMDC is Morocco's leading service area / petrol station operator with over 400 petrol stations. Afrilub (Afriquia Lubrifiants Maroc) is a motor oil producer. Petrolog and Petrosud are gasoline importers. Petrosud also runs a large oil depot in Agadir. SEJ ( Société d'Entreposage de Jorf Lasfar ) is a gas and heating oil company.
Auto Speedy offers car repairs. Rezoroute operates the "Mini-Brahim" grocery stores and "Oasis Cafe" rest stops.
Liquid gas
Afriqui Gaz is Morocco's leading LPG seller. Akwa's liquefied gas brands include Afriquia Gaz, Tissir Gaz, Ultra Gaz, Camping Gaz and Métagaz.
Industry and medical gases
Maghreb Oxygène is a producer of medical gas. Three production facilities in Berrechid, Had Soualem and Jorf Al Asfar are operated. The company sells medical liquid oxygen , liquid nitrogen , ethyne etc.
telecommunications
Akwa has two subsidiaries that provide telecommunications services, Eho & Aloha, which is associated with Méditel and Bell Networks, which is associated with Nortel Networks
Tourism, hotels, catering and real estate
Akwa is part of the Accor Group with hotels such as Ibis and Ibis Budget. Akwa owns the catering company Oasis Café and the real estate company Akwa Immobilier.
