The Yemeni Assembly for Reform ( Arabic التجمع اليمني للإصلاح, DMG at-Taǧammuʿ al-Yamanī li-l-Iṣlāḥ ), also known under the name Islah or al-Islah , is a political party in Yemen .

ideology

Al-Islah has been described as having three components. The first is the political part, the Yemeni Muslim Brotherhood under the leadership of Mohammed Qahtan. The second is the Hashid tribal confederation under Sheikh Abdullah al-Ahmar , who died in 2007 and who was followed by his son Sadiq al-Ahmar (Sadiq's younger brother, Hamid al-Ahmar, is active in politics). The third dimension is mainstream Yemeni Salafism , represented by the country's most prominent Sunni scholar, Abd al-Majid az-Zindani .

elections

It is currently in opposition to the ruling General People's Congress party . In the last parliamentary elections on April 27, 2003, al-Islah received 22.6% of the vote and 46 of 301 seats in parliament. The best-known MP from al-Islah is Tawakkul Karman , who in 2011 was the first woman from the Arab region to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
