Abu Ahmad Talha b. Ja'far al-Muwaffaq bi-llah ( Arabic أبو أحمد طلحة بن جعفر الموفق بالله, DMG Abū Aḥmad Ṭalḥa b. Ǧaʿfar al-Muwaffaq bi-'llāh ; * 842 ; † June 2, 891 ) was the ruling regent of the Abbasids under the caliph al-Mu'tamid between 875 and 891 .

Al-Muwaffaq was a brother of al-Mu'tamid (ruled 870-892) and took over the management of the imperial administration in Baghdad in 875 . Soon he had largely ousted the weak al-Mu'tamid from the government.

Under al-Muwaffaq could Caliphate Abbasid be stabilized. So he put down the Zanj uprising in southern Iraq until 883 , increased control over the provinces and also vigorously fought the Tulunids in Syria .

Since al-Muwaffaq increasingly suffered from elephantiasis , his son Abu l-Abbas Ahmad took over the business of government from 889. After al-Muwaffaq's death on June 5, 891, Abu l-Abbas Ahmad of al-Mu'tamid also officially obtained his father's office. Later Abu l-Abbas Ahmad was able to assert himself as caliph under the name al-Mu'tadid bi-'llah (892-902).
