Al Jama-ah ( Arabic ; German for example: "The Party") is a political party founded in South Africa in 2007 . It represents the interests of Muslims and won a seat in the National Assembly for the first time in the 2019 elections .

history

In 2007 the journalist Ganief Hendricks founded the party in a mosque in Cape Town . She took part in the national elections in 2009 and 2014 , but did not win a seat there. In 2019 she received 0.18% of the votes and thus a mandate. In the elections to the Provincial Legislatures that took place at the same time , she won another mandate in the Western Cape Province with 0.86% of the vote . In the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal , Gauteng and Eastern Cape , the party remained below 0.3%.

Structure and program

Ganief Hendricks has headed the party since it was founded. The party headquarters are in Cape Town.

In 2009, the party decided that council members should transfer ten percent of their income to the party so that a party headquarters can be set up.

The party emblem is green, black and red striped lengthways , with a black jīm on the green and black part.

The party's slogan is Deen First , something like "Religion [resp. Believe] first ”. According to the 2019 election manifesto, Al Jama-ah's agenda includes maintaining an Islamic ethos, fighting corruption and improving public services.
