Alarm cloth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An alarm cloth or an alarm mat is an alarm detector that reacts to changes in load.

In conjunction with alarm systems

Alarm cloth

Alarm wipes are used in exhibitions , museums , trade fairs , churches and other places where a valuable object should be made accessible to the visitor without obstruction or other restrictions. The alarm cloth was the first alarm device that offered this possibility of discreet protection of exhibited valuables without disproportionate effort. It was also the first detector who offered the possibility of a barrier-free presentation of the exhibits at traveling exhibitions.

The alarm cloth is an approx. 1 mm thick synthetic fleece that lies like a tablecloth under the objects to be monitored. The fleece contains numerous measuring points made of fiber optic cables, usually arranged in a grid . The objects to be secured must have a certain minimum support surface, which varies depending on the manufacturer and type.

Electronics are connected to the alarm sheet and constantly monitor the weight load on the sheet. If this changes by a certain amount, the electronics send an alarm message to the connected alarm system . The alarm cloth is an active alarm indicator.

Alarm mat

In a modified form, less sensitive alarm mats are used to monitor house doors or patients. Such mats often use internal pressure switches due to their different sensitivity range .

To protect the elderly or people in need of care

The concept of the alarm cloth is also used to protect the elderly or those in need of care , in particular to reduce the risk of falls. There are two tools for this:

  • The alarm mat or alarm mattress triggers a signal when the person in need of care falls out of bed or leaves it.
  • The step alarm mat is placed in front of the bed or seating furniture and triggers a signal when the seating furniture or bed is left.

These aids play a role in determining whether the restriction of movement through bars or barriers through the use of milder means can be dispensed with.
