The Albert-Schwarz-Bad Heidenau is a municipal outdoor swimming pool in the Saxon city of Heidenau . It is located on the Meuschaer Höhe and is operated by the Technical Services Heidenau GmbH .

history

As early as 1911, the “Public Health” association came up with the idea of building a “light and air bath”, but the First World War interrupted the preparatory work for building the bath. The cooperative founded on June 4, 1920 for the construction of the baths was not only joined by the surrounding communities with considerable monetary contributions, financial contributions were also received from companies. In addition, facilities could be created with funds from productive unemployment assistance . The SPD politician Albert Schwarz was particularly committed to the construction and its financing.

On May 16, 1921, the facility was inaugurated as a light and air bath. At the beginning of the bathing season in 1923, the swimming pool with a size of 50 m × 20 m could then be handed over to its intended use after the city of Heidenau had established a pipe connection from the elevated tank above the pool free of charge.

In 1946 the bath was named after its sponsor Albert Schwarz after a monument erected for him was destroyed by the National Socialists in 1933. In 2000 the memorial stone was restored with a bronze relief made from a picture.

In 1953 the pool became public property and was managed by the municipality, which gradually expanded it to include a children's pool (1955), a second swimmer and jumper pool (1957 to 1959) and a diving platform (1958). Comprehensive reconstructions took place in 1973, from 2001 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2008, so that the bathroom today has a modern stainless steel basin landscape.

In 2018 the pool reached 3rd place in the nationwide outdoor pool ranking "Germany's most popular summer pools".

Furnishing

The outdoor pool has a 4 × 25 m sports pool (450 m³), a diving pool (340 m³) with a 3 m diving platform, a non-swimmer pool with a wide water slide and water mushroom (279 m³) as well as two paddling pools in the area for small children.

The cabin areas, built in the style of the 1930s, were originally in the Heidenau Elbebad. The ladies' house of the Heidenau Elbe baths from the end of the 19th century was also converted into the Albert-Schwarz-Bad and is currently used by the DLRG Heidenau.

The bathroom has a tree-lined sunbathing area of around 40,000 m² with play and sports facilities. A competition-oriented 3-field multibeach facility is equipped for beach volleyball , beach handball and beach soccer . It is used by amateur athletes and several sports and game clubs for training and tournaments.

The outdoor area has a capacity of around 5000 visitors. On peak days, up to 3,000 visitors came to the Albert-Schwarz-Bad in Heidenau.
