The Albingia emerges from the Albingia insurance company founded in Hamburg in 1901 ; this opened its first branch in France in Strasbourg in 1962. The German mother came to the French Axa group in 1999 , which sold the French subsidiary to the private equity investor Barclays Private Equity in 2003 ; In November 2006, the latter in turn sold to two other financial investors, Chevrillon & Associés and IDI. Albingia has been in the portfolio of investor Eurazeo since December 2018 .
