Alen (unit of length)

Alen , Aln , Alin or Öln is a traditional Scandinavian unit of length similar to the Elle in German .

Here 1 alen is about 60 cm. The Danish and Norwegian Alen corresponded to a length of 62.77 cm, the Swedish Alen a length of 59.38 cm.

These ales were divided into halves, quarters, eighths and so on. Alen was always double the measure of the foot .
