Alexander von Humboldt Professorship

As Alexander von Humboldt Professorship (in its own case Alexander von Humboldt Professorship ) refers to one by Alexander von Humboldt named and since 2008 by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation prize awarded, of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part by the International Research Fund for Germany .

The prize money is usually 5 million euros for experimental scientists or 3.5 million euros for theoretical scientists; it is available for a period of five years. This makes the award the most highly endowed research award in Germany.

The nominations are made by German universities; Non-university research institutions can draw up a nomination in cooperation with a German university.

The prize is intended to help bring internationally renowned scientists to Germany from abroad so that they can carry out top-level research there; this is intended to strengthen Germany as a research location.
