Alexandra Christina, Countess of Frederiksborg (* 30th June 1964 in Hong Kong as Alexandra Christina Manley ) is an economist and the former wife of Prince Joachim to Denmark . The marriage lasted from 1995 to 2005.

Life

origin

Alexandra Manley was born in Hong Kong as the eldest daughter of Richard Nigel Manley and Christa Maria Nowotny. She has two younger sisters, Martina Bent and Nicola Baird. Her father had a Chinese mother and an English father. Your mother comes from Austria. Therefore, Alexandra grew up bilingual (English and German). Alexandra also speaks a little Chinese, but doesn't consider herself Chinese. As she explained, it is shaped by the Anglo-American upbringing of her father and the home of her mother, Austria. Alexandra was baptized in Hong Kong according to the Anglican rite.

Her parents gave Alexandra a cosmopolitan education. Alexandra attended schools in Hong Kong from 1969 to 1982. After graduating from school, she studied at the Vienna University of Economics from 1983 to 1984 . From 1984 to 1986 she studied economics in Tokyo and from 1989 to 1990 in London .

Alexandra worked from 1986 to 1989 as a stock broker for Citibank , Hong Kong and for Jardine Fleming , Hong Kong. Between 1990 and 1995, she worked as the assistant marketing director for an investment firm in Hong Kong. In 2017 she accepted a Chair in Business and Administration on the faculty of the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University Bloomington .

Marriage to Prince Joachim

Alexandra Christina Manley met Prince Joachim at a party in Hong Kong in 1994. She married the Danish prince on November 18, 1995. Upon marriage, she became Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Denmark . Before the wedding, she converted from the Anglican to the Evangelical Lutheran faith. She learned Danish within a very short time.

Two children emerged from this connection:

On September 16, 2004, the couple announced their separation. The divorce followed on April 8, 2005. They have joint custody of the sons. With the divorce, Alexandra lost the title royal in her title, as this was linked to her marital status with Prince Joachim. Part of the divorce settlement was the bestowal of the title of Countess of Frederiksborg by Queen Margrethe. It is not hereditary. From 2005 to 2007 she was Her Highness Princess Alexandra of Denmark, Countess of Frederiksborg .

Second marriage

On March 3, 2007 Alexandra married the almost 14 years younger photographer Martin Jørgensen (born March 2, 1978); the marriage was divorced in 2015. With this second marriage, she lost her title of Princess of Denmark and her status as a member of the royal family. Since then, her official name has been Her Excellency Alexandra Christina, Countess of Frederiksborg , she calls herself Alexandra Manley, Countess of Frederiksborg . She continues to receive her annual allowance of 1.9 million kroner (approx. 250,000 euros), but has had to pay tax on it since she left the royal family. Von Frederiksborg has announced that it will sell Apanage from the 18th birthday of their youngest son in July 2020.

The Countess lives with the two children Nikolai and Felix from their marriage to Prince Joachim in Østerbro in Copenhagen .
