The Alexandrion ( Greek Αλεξάνδρειον ), a building of the international "Alexander the Great Institute", is a private institution of Macedonians living abroad. These Greeks, who came from Macedonia , had the idea of ​​building a monument in their homeland, at the foot of Mount Olympus, near the Zeus sanctuary in Dion , which was to be a symbol of their connection with their homeland and at the same time was intended as a meeting place. It was established in 1992. The head office of the institute is in New York (USA), the local board of directors is in Katerini.

The aims of the institute are charitable, spiritual, social, artistic and cultural. The preservation and dissemination of the Greek language and Greek traditions enjoy a special value. Exhibitions and seminars are held, and the Alexandrion also serves representative purposes. In addition to the former Greek President Papoulias, other high-ranking domestic and foreign personalities were guests. Concerts, lectures and, by arrangement, guided tours take place.

All of the pictures, display boards and exhibits exhibited in the U-shaped building are related to Alexander the Great . Starting with his place of birth Pella , all stages of his short life are illuminated. The largest display shows his campaign from Macedonia to India. The individual stages of this campaign are shown in detail.

Signs by Vergina, Pella and Dion, annotated in Greek and English, explain Alexander's work in these places. It is worth highlighting a map on which all ancient Macedonian places are marked and a copy of the mosaic of the Battle of Alexander against the Persians. ( Alexander mosaic ) from Pompei.
