history

The Masonic Lodge "Alfred zur Linde" is the oldest Masonic lodge in Essen and was founded in 1859 by 29 members from existing lodges in the surrounding area. The lodge belonged to the grand lodge Great National Mother Lodge "To the three globes" . In downtown Essen , Logenstrasse is still a reminder of the longstanding location of the Logenhaus.

For a new building of the lodge house, the lodge launched an architecture competition in 1908, which was limited to architects who were members of a Masonic lodge in the Rhineland or Westphalia.
