Richard Dörschel (* 1863 ; † August 12, 1955 in Düsseldorf ) was a German architect who mainly worked in Düsseldorf.

Life

Dörschel came to Düsseldorf at the end of the 1880s to help build the main train station. He made his own and worked in partnership with the architect Richard Klein , the shared office operated under the name Small and Dörschel .

Klein and Dörschel built the Hotel Bristol on Bahnhofsplatz with the mighty stucco giants (mockingly called "mortgage bearers" in the vernacular), the Vionville house (1893–1894), the Cornelius house (1896–1897) with the Selo department store in the lower and the lower Café Cornelius on the upper floors, the management building of the Steamship Company for the Lower and Middle Rhine (1898) and the S. Guttmann & Cie. (1898) on Garbenstrasse. Many of these buildings were destroyed in World War II. The "Esplanade House", built from 1910 to 1911 at Luegplatz 3, has been a listed building since 1984, as have other buildings by Klein and Dörschel in Oberkassel .

Richard Dörschel was a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA), Düsseldorf district group, the Düsseldorf Architects and Engineers Association , which had been in existence since 1893, and the Malkasten artists' association . In addition, he was accepted into the Chemnitz Masonic Lodge Zur Harmonie in 1890 . His appointment as a BDA honorary member on his 90th birthday was celebrated with a party and a torchlight procession in the Malkasten clubhouse . He died at the age of 92 on August 12, 1955 in Düsseldorf.
