S. Guttmann & Cie. Department store

The S. Guttmann & Cie. was located at Grabenstrasse 15 in Düsseldorf - Altstadt and was built in 1898 by the architects Klein and Dörschel . The department store was said to be “remarkable in terms of the layout” because the atrium could only be accessed on three sides via galleries. It was characteristic of a department store or department store that the atrium had to be avoided on all four sides. In this case, the rear of the atrium was limited by the main staircase. The facade was five storeys high and completely glazed. Very narrow pillars divided the street front into five axes.

The building was rebuilt from 1911 to 1912 by the Düsseldorf architects Walter Klose and Georg Schäfer and expanded on the neighboring property at Grabenstrasse 13.

In 1930 the building was rebuilt once more by the Düsseldorf architect Felix Coenen and expanded to include the Maass office building. The building has not been preserved.
