The Algemene Bank Nederland ( ABN ; German  " General Bank Netherlands " ) was a Dutch bank from 1964 to 1991. It was created in October 1964 through the merger of Dutch trading company and the Twentsche Bank . In December 1967, Hollandsche Bank-Unie (HBU) and its strong South American business were taken over. In the late 1970s, LaSalle National Bank (LNB) was acquired, which in 1979 was Chicago's sixth largest bank and employed 700 people. In the early 1980s, ABN was the largest bank in the Netherlands. In 1991 it merged with AMRO Bank (Amsterdamsche Rotterdamsche Bank) to form ABN AMRO, which operates worldwide .

Through the Dutch trading company, ABN and later ABN AMRO could look back on historical and international roots as far back as 1824.

Hollandsche Bank Unie (HBU) has been part of Deutsche Bank since April 1, 2010. Immediately afterwards the name was changed to "Deutsche Bank Nederland NV"
