Algimantas Čekuolis

Algimantas Jurgis Čekuolis (born November 10, 1931 in Panevėžys ) is a Lithuanian journalist, TV presenter , publicist, writer and travel guide.

Life

In 1948 Algimantas Čekuolis graduated from the adult grammar school in Vilnius . 1953 graduated from the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow . He then traveled for over 10 years and worked as a seaman. During this time he wrote eight books.

In 1962, Čekuolis became a translator from Spanish in Havana . He worked there for three years, improving his Spanish. From 1975 to 1979 Čekuolis headed the Soviet office of the press agency “ Novosti ” (APN) in Lisbon . In 1986 Čekuolis became editor-in-chief of the weekly Gimtasis kraštas . At the same time was an activist from Sąjūdis and was elected Sąjūdis- Seimas . In 1989 he was a deputy to the People's Deputy Assembly of the Soviet Union .

From 1992 Čekuolis taught as a lecturer at Vilnius University . As a journalist he was the author and until December 2016 the presenter of the Sunday program “Popietė su Algimantu Čekuoliu” on Lietuvos nacionalinis radijas ir televizija . He regularly takes part in the Vilnius Book Fair at Litexpo (up to and including 2017) and previously led tour groups in various regions of the world (Europe, Asia, etc.).

Čekuolis has been married to psychologist Edita Sirvidytė since 1996. From his first marriage he has two grown children.
