Alhagie Jawara was a candidate for the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the 2017 parliamentary elections in the Lower Baddibu constituency in the Kerewan Administrative Region . With 62.36% he was able to win the constituency before Mamud BJ Touray (GDC) and Bubacarr Makalo (NRP).

In November 2019, the UDP dismissed eight party members from their party who were representing in parliament. The informed parliament now classifies the parliamentarians, including Jawara, as independent MPs.
