Ali Abdollahi
Ali Abdollahi ( ; * 1968 in Khorasan ) is an Iranian poet and literary translator.
Born 1968 in Birjand (South Khorasan), Iran. Contemporary poet, literary critic and translator, studied German in Tehran and graduated with a diploma thesis "Concrete poetry in German lessons". Abdollahi has already published 4 volumes of poetry, which are among the most sought-after works of modern Iranian poetry. His language shows a unique interweaving of sophistication and intelligibility. He takes up profound philosophical, historical and social issues and processes them in his poetry with an individual, original precision. Political issues are dealt with in his poems in an indirect, epistemologically groundbreaking way. Abdollahi's love poems are also rooted in a holistic, profoundly human, philosophically oriented worldview.
He has also been translating from German into Persian for several years. He has done more than 70 translations by authors such as Heinrich Heine, Friedrich Nietzsche, Rainer Maria Rilke, Franz Kafka, Bertolt Brecht, Kurt Tucholsky, Elias Canetti, Robert Musil, Martin Heidegger, Günter Grass, Ilma Rakusa, Michael Krüger etc. published. His anthologies of modern German-language prose and poetry have already achieved several editions in Iran. In addition to numerous readings in Iran, Abdollahi has read from his works several times outside the country, including in New Delhi, Vienna, Berlin and Frankfurt. He currently lives in Iran as a freelance writer.
