Alice Bunker Stockham (* 1833 in Chicago , Illinois , USA ; † 1912 ) was an American gynecologist . She was the fifth woman allowed to work as a doctor in the United States. Stockham advocated birth control , reform clothing, and women's equality . Stockham gained notoriety through the spiritual-sexual practice of Karezza , which was founded by her.
