Karezza

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Karezza literally means "caressing, caressing" and is supposed to bring about deeper satisfaction by decoupling from ejaculation and orgasm.

Karezza ( Italian: carezza, "caress", "caress" ) or Coitus Reservatus describes a sexual practice in which the man consciously and deliberately refrains from ejaculating . Originally only related to actual sexual intercourse , the term is now broader and describes all forms of sexual interaction in which the man avoids ejaculation or does not consciously strive for it. It was mainly published by the gynecologist Alice Bunker Stockham .

The writer Aldous Huxley described Karezza as "an intimate relationship, including tender movements, which should not lead to orgasm." Although the conventional orgasm is omitted as the climax of sexual intercourse, the decoupling from ejaculation results in a persistent "orgasmic" state a. Through Karezza a very intense sensation of pleasure and also a very intense feeling of togetherness of the sexual partners can be evoked, possibly mediated by the increased release of oxytocin . As in tantra , sexuality should be spiritualized .

designation

Karezza is derived from the Italian carezza for "caress, caress". Alan Watts points to the Persian origins of the word. The Latin expression coitus reservatus means “restrained sexual intercourse” in German.

Principle and technology

The orgasm should not be the goal of the sexual act and should represent its end point, but rather merge into it: the entire sexual act can thus assume an "orgasmic" character. Both sexual partners have to loosen their fixation on orgasm. In Karezza, sex should not be limited to a delimited, consuming act that ends in orgasm. Much more it should fill and "energize" the whole being of the human being and his partnership. Bazon Brock , Professor of Aesthetics and Cultural Mediation, relates Karezza to the principle of sublimation , whereby pleasure is cultivated "without it being destroyed by the discharge of instincts."

The basic principle is to regulate the amount of stimulation so that the man remains in control of his orgasm. A state of excitement is maintained in the plateau phase . While that is the penis into the vagina introduced the woman, but not very moved there for a long time or moderate. If the man notices that he is entering the orgasm phase, he can prevent ejaculation and “conventional” eruptive orgasm by tensing the PC muscle in conjunction with calm abdominal breathing . Instead, the orgasm is experienced as a slowly building up, warm feeling that penetrates the whole body like waves. The entire sexual act becomes orgasmic from a certain point, the orgasm does not form the climax and conclusion of the act, but merges with it. According to the sexologist Max Marcuse , Karezza is a "love artistry" through which "individuals who are prepared and able to do so ... can achieve unusual happiness".

Karezza must be differentiated from coitus interruptus , in which ejaculation occurs outside the vagina , but after the end of sexual intercourse . The latter is mainly used as a method of contraception , but like Karezza, it is not reliable for this purpose. A distinction must also be made between so-called tease and denial , in which the refusal to orgasm is usually an expression of playful dominance and subordination.

history

Indian and Chinese origins

The origins of Karezza lie in Tantric and Daoist sexual practices

Similar ideas about an upgrading and transcending of sexuality by renouncing ejaculation can be found in Buddhist Tantra and Sahaja Yoga . In Chinese Taoist philosophy, ejaculation is seen as a loss of strength. Various Daoist sexual practices show methods of avoiding it. By renouncing this, the act of love can last as long as you like and become more fulfilling for both partners.

Karezza in the 19th and 20th centuries

The early socialist and pioneer of free love , John Humphrey Noyes , was an early proponent of intercourse without ejaculation. The process he called Coitus Reservatus was intended to cultivate the sexual energy of man and was practiced within the Oneida movement he founded . Loss of semen has been equated with loss of sexual energy, a concept borrowed from Daoism. The method is described in his book Male Continence , published in 1872 .

The term Karezza was coined by the American doctor Alice Bunker Stockham , who published a booklet in 1896 with the title Karezza. Ethics of Marriage. published. Just one year later, Stockham's work appeared in a German translation under the title Die Reform-Ehe. A means to increase the joy of existence and to ennoble the human race . She saw Karezza as a way of the spiritual union of two people: while conventional sexual intercourse with ejaculation serves biological reproduction (and should be reserved for this purpose according to Stockham), Karezza serves "mental and spiritual reproduction". According to Stockham, Karezza should be a technique for a wider "socio-sexual revolution" through which Karezza felt a sense of deep interpersonal union, if practiced regularly, should reform the relationship between the sexes.

Another translation of the book by Werner Zimmermann , a leading figure in the life reform movement , appeared in 1924 under the title Ethics of Marriage. Karezza . Another translation of a Karezza guide by Zimmermann appeared as early as 1929: Karezza Praxis. Love as an exchange of magnetic forces, the art of conjugal love, the loving person as the artist of touch by J. William Lloyd. The font was published in numerous editions up into the 1960s or 1970s.

Karezza was also a theme within anthroposophy , Karezza found followers in the environment of the esoteric and philosopher Rudolf Steiner .

A prominent proponent of the practice became the American writer and anarchist John William Lloyd . He published a book on Karezza in 1931 under the title The Karezza Method, or Magnetation: The Art of Connubial Love . He sees it as a more perfect way of dealing with human sexuality. The emotional union of the partners during the sexual act comes to the fore over the satisfaction of physical desire.

In successful Karezza the sex-organs become quiet, satisfied, demagnetized, as perfectly as by the orgasm, while the rest of the body of each partner glows with a wonderful vigor and conscious joy - tending to irradiate the whole being with romantic love; and always with an after-feeling of health, purity and well-being. "
(German:" With a successful Karezza, the genitals become as calm, satisfied and relaxed as during an orgasm, while the rest of the body glows with vitality and conscious bliss , filling the whole being with love. The act is followed by a feeling of health, purity and well-being.) "

- John William Lloyd

present

Karezza has recently become a "trend practice". As an alternative to an increased focus on sexual performance and consumption, Karezza, comparable to the slow food movement , aims to bring about a deeper and more sensual experience. Practitioners reported a deeper emotional connection with their partner, more pleasurable intercourse, and holistic orgasmic experiences .

" Karezza turned out to be an enjoyable way to tiptoe around biology's agenda"
(German: "Karezza is an enjoyable way to bypass the biological agenda."

- Marnia L. Robinson

Karezza is also used in couples therapy for decreasing mutual sexual desire.

The NoFap movement is currently spreading , mainly among adolescents and young adults . Men and women try to forego an orgasm achieved through pornography and masturbation for increasing, predetermined periods of time , sometimes also in the context of sexual intercourse.
