Werner Zimmermann (1917)

Werner Zimmermann (born June 21, 1893 in Lyss ; † August 29, 1982 in Ringgenberg ) was a Swiss reformer , supporter of Silvio Gesell's free economy , naturist and writer .

Life

From 1909 to 1913, Werner Zimmermann completed teacher training at the Untereminar in Hofwil and the Oberseminar in Bern . Ernst Schneider , the director of the Oberseminar, got him enthusiastic about reform education , psychoanalysis and free economics . From 1913 to 1919 he taught at the secondary school in Lauterbrunnen . In 1915 the member of the newly formed was open land - free money -Bundes. His teaching was summarized: "Free economy through free land and free money."

From 1919 to 1920 Zimmermann traveled to North America as a migrant worker . In 1923 he went back to the USA, where he tried to win Edsel Ford and other leading figures for free economics. In 1929 he was in Central America and gave lectures in the USA and Canada. In British Columbia he visited the Duchoborzen . In 1930 he traveled to Hawaii, Japan, Beijing, Mongolia, Shanghai, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Java, Bali, India and Palestine. In India he attended the educational institutions of Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi . His books on Karezza sexual practice were also influenced by Asian influences .

In 1932 he was a co-founder of the Schatzacker settlement in Bassersdorf near Zurich. In 1934 he founded the Wirtschaftsring (today WIR Bank ) together with Paul Enz and Otto Studer . In addition, he helped to set up the nudist area “ Die neue Zeit ” in Thielle on Lake Neuchâtel .

Works

Most of Zimmermann's writings are smaller booklets or brochures. From 1924 until it was banned in 1937, he published the monthly Tao , later Tau .
