Eduard Fankhauser

Eduard Fankhauser (born January 23, 1904 in Biel / Bienne ; † August 30, 1998 in Gampelen ) was a Swiss naturist and publisher .

Life

In 1921, after completing his commercial training, Eduard or Edi Fankhauser came into contact with Werner Zimmermann , a holistic advocate of life reform with free economics and founder of the interest-free WIR-Bank . He was also a pioneer of the naturist movement through the elements of reform pedagogy . In 1923 Fankhauser became managing director of his publishing bookstore, in 1924 he became an independent publishing bookseller. He also published the well-known yoga books by Selvarajan Yesudian and Elisabeth Haich there .

In 1927 he founded the Swiss Lichtbund , (since 1938 organization of naturists in Switzerland , ONS), in 1928 its organ Die neue Zeit . He campaigned for a healthy lifestyle through alcohol and tobacco abstinence, vegetarianism, the care of the mind and health sports.

Between 1926 and 1944 he successfully fought twelve trials - some up to the Swiss Federal Supreme Court - for the right to nudity and tolerance for the naturist movement. In his 50-year tenure as central president of the ONS, he created 16 naturist sites, the most famous of which in 1937 in Thielle . In 1956 some of the members separated from the Lichtbund under the leadership of Carl Frank and founded the Swiss Naturist Federation .

In 1961 he set up the new time for healthy leisure time foundation , which after his death became the owner of the naturist grounds he had created. Also in Thielle, he presided over the 1st World Naturist Congress in 1952 and was involved in founding the International Naturist Federation (INF) .
