Anton Klamroth (born April 29, 1860 in Moscow , † February 11, 1929 in Leipzig ) was a German portrait painter specializing in pastel and watercolor painting .

Life

Anton Klamroth was the son of the German violinist , composer , music teacher and concert master at the Imperial Moscow Opera (1856–1901) Karl Klamroth (1828–1912). Anton's sister Marie Lomnitz-Klamroth was the well-known director of the German Central Library for the Blind .

After completing high school in Moscow and Gotha , he attended the Bauakademie in Berlin from 1882 to 1884 and from 1883 studied at the same time at the Berlin Academy of the Arts , with Paul Thumann and Carl Gustaf Hellqvist , among others .

From 1890 to 1892 Klamroth lived as a freelance portrait painter in Meiningen . In 1893 he opened a painting and drawing school for women in Leipzig, his most important place of residence and work . In 1903 Klamroth married his student Hermine von Walther (born July 12, 1877).

He also made a name for himself as a collector of tin soldiers and the founder of the German collectors' association for tin figures KLIO :

Anton Klamroth was best known for a significant number of portraits of princes, including a. Paintings of the German imperial couple Wilhelm II and Auguste Viktoria as well as the Saxon King Friedrich August III.
