Franc Noir de la Haute Saône

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The red wine variety Franc Noir de la Haute Saône used to be widespread in the north-eastern wine-growing regions of France , but is now represented in the Aube department with less than 5 hectares of vineyards . Around 1845, the variety was strongly propagated by the teacher Gougenot in the Haute-Saône department .

origin

Based on genetic studies of 352 grape varieties in 1998, it turned out that the varieties Aligoté , Aubin Vert , Auxerrois , Bachet Noir , Beaunoir , Chardonnay , Dameron , Gamay Blanc Gloriod , Gamay , Knipperlé , Melon de Bourgogne , Peurion , Romorantin , Roublot and Sacy , like the Franc Noir de la Haute Saône variety, all emerged from spontaneous crosses between Pinot and Gouais Blanc. Since the genetic differences between Pinot Blanc , Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir are extremely small, an exact specification of the Pinot type is not yet available.

The success of this spontaneous crossing is explained by the fact that the two parent strains are genetically completely different. While the varieties of the Pinot family presumably come from Burgundy, the Gouais Blanc was brought to France by the Romans. In the vineyards of Burgundy and southern Champagne, both varieties were mixed together for several centuries .

Origin: Pinot × Gouais Blanc

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is very hairy with white wool. The young leaves are slightly hairy and yellow in color.
  • The medium-sized leaves are five-lobed and moderately curved. The stalk bay is very narrowly open or even closed. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set medium to wide in comparison to the grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered and rough. In autumn the leaves turn red partially.
  • The conical to cylindrical grape is small and dense. The slightly elongated berries are small and black-blue in color.

The grape variety Franc Noir de la Haute Saône ripens approx. 10–12 days after the Gutedel and is therefore one of the early ripening varieties.

Synonyms
