The All Nigeria People's Party ( ANPP , Party of All Nigerian Peoples) is a political party in Nigeria .

The ANPP is the opposition leader in the Nigerian parliament. Its main constituency is drawn from the Islamic north of the country, which is dominated by the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups . In Nigeria, however, ethnicity does not determine the voting decisions alone, as tactical voting behavior plays a major role. The management level of the ANPP is mainly composed of former or still active military personnel. The current chairman of the ANPP is Chief Obong Don Etiebet .

history

The ANPP emerged from the All People's Party , which experienced a factional split after a defeat in the 1999 presidential election . In the controversial elections in 2003 , she achieved 27.5% of the vote and won 96 of the 360 seats in the House of Representatives and 27 of the 109 Senate seats. The election campaign was overshadowed, among other things, by the murder of ANPP Vice Chairman Chief Marshall Harry on March 5th. In the presidential elections that took place in the same year, its candidate, the former military dictator Muhammadu Buhari , was defeated by the People's Democratic Party with 32.2% of the vote against the former president Olusegun Obasanjo . Buhari then called the election "a joke" because of numerous indications of manipulation and challenged the result.
