The All People's Party ( APP ) was a conservative political party in Nigeria from 1998 to 1999 .

founding

The party was founded in 1998 under the interim government of Abdulsalami Abubakar , who was supposed to return Nigeria to a civilian government after the death of the military dictator Sani Abacha . It emerged from various associations that had received support during the military dictatorship. The APP had the most support in central Nigeria and parts of northern Nigeria.

elections

In the gubernatorial elections in January 1999, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) emerged as the most successful party. Subsequently, the APP and the Alliance for Democracy (AD) formed an alliance and agreed on the presidential candidate Samuel Oluyemi Falae from the AD, while Umaru Shinkafi from the APP became a runner-up . In the elections of February 20, 1999, the APP won 74 of 360 House seats and 29 of 109 Senate seats, making it the second strongest political force.

resolution

Falae defeated in the presidential elections but against Olusegun Obasanjo of the PDP.

After the election defeat, the APP split into several factions and therefore participated in the 2003 elections in Nigeria as the All Nigeria People's Party .
