All Purpose Structured Eurocontrol Surveillance Information Exchange
All Purpose Structured Eurocontrol Surveillance Information Exchange ( ASTERIX ) is a protocol published by EUROCONTROL for the exchange of flight surveillance data. This includes above all radar data , but also z. B. Weather data, data for time synchronization and much more. The protocol is increasingly replacing older protocols such as CAA (protocol) , the Radar Data Interchange Format and MADREC .
The ASTERIX protocol is divided into so-called categories from 0 to 255 (although not all numbers have been assigned yet). Each category includes a certain type of data (e.g. weather data); some categories are completely reserved for military air traffic control.
