Alla zingarese

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alla zingarese is a technical term in music for the playing instruction "in the style of gypsy music " . These playing instructions refer to supposedly typical characteristics for "gypsy music":

  • the melody is mostly in a minor key
  • it is based on the so-called gypsy scale with a minor third , excessive fourth , minor sixth and major seventh
  • the playing instruction "alla zingarese" allows great freedom in changing tempo ( agogic )
  • With string instruments (mostly violins ) an allegedly gypsy sound can be achieved by sliding the finger over the seamless fingerboard ( glissando ) until the correct note is reached .

The game instruction "alla zingarese" can be found z. B. in the Hungarian rhapsodies by Franz Liszt and in works by the Romanian composer George Enescu .
