Allahu Akbar (National Anthem of Libya)
Allahu Akbar ( Arabic الله أكبر) was the title of the national anthem of Libya, which was valid between 1969 and 2011 . It was introduced after the fall of the monarchy on September 1, 1969 and replaced the national anthem Libiya, Libiya, Libiya , which had been used since independence in 1951 . Based on the pan-Arab ideas of the new head of state Muammar al-Gaddafi , an anthem was chosen that had no direct reference to the country. The song written by Mahmoud El-Sherif and set to music by Abdallah Schams El-Din was written in 1956 as a marching song for the Egyptian army during the Suez Crisis .
The National Transitional Council , founded on February 27, 2011, reintroduced the former national anthem Libya, Libya, Libya as a state symbol together with the old flag of the Kingdom of Libya .
