Real Leipziger Allasch

Allasch is the name of a Livonian caraway liqueur , the name of which is also used in German as a generic term for these liqueurs.

From 1823 the liqueur was produced at Gut Allasch (Lat .: Allažmuiža ) of the von Blanckenhagen family . Production in Latvia ended in 1944. The Alažu Ķimelis offered today by Latvijas Balzams is not identical to the original.

Allasch was presented at the trade fair in Leipzig in 1830 . Local distilleries soon produced it themselves, making it a popular spirit in the region . Because of its high sugar content it is one of the liqueurs, although it has a higher alcohol content than most liqueurs. For example, “Echter Leipziger Allasch” has an alcohol content of 38% vol. And the "Allasch" produced by the Prussian Spirits Manufactory has an alcohol content of 40% vol.

Allasch is mainly drunk strongly chilled as a digestif or as an accompaniment to Gose , another Leipzig specialty.
