Allegretto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Allegretto (Italian; a little fast, a little moved, lively, cheerful, happy ) is a musical tempo designation . As a diminutive of Allegro , it calls for a somewhat slower tempo, somewhere between Allegro moderato and Andante con moto . Often a light and graceful character is intended by this regulation, but this is not mandatory: Allegretto can - like allegro  - also function as a character-neutral tempo designation.

Leopold Mozart wrote in his violin school published in 1756 :

Allegretto is a little slower than Allegro , generally has something pleasant, something polite and funny, and a lot in common with the andante . So it has to be presented in a polite, dandy, and joking manner: what kind of joke and joke can be more clearly identified by the word gusto , both at this and at the other tempo . "
