Alliance for Progressives

Alliance for Progressives (AP; German for example: "Alliance for Progressive") is a party founded in 2017 in Botswana . It emerged as a split from the opposition party Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), which until 2018 belonged to the umbrella organization Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

history

In the 2014 election to the National Assembly , the UDC electoral alliance won 17 of the 57 seats. The BMD, which is part of the UDC, split into two camps in 2017. The MP Ndaba Gaolathe then left the BDM with his supporters and founded the AP on October 28, 2017 in Maun .

In the 2019 election , she received 5.1% of the vote and one of 57 mandates. Gaolathe, who had lost in his constituency , rejected an offer from President Mokgweetsi Masisi to receive one of the six seats he was earning .

Structure and politics

The elected president is Ndaba Gaolathe, his deputy Wynter Mmolotsi, who has been the only AP member of the National Assembly since 2019. The party describes its policy as "progressive".

The party color is purple.
