The Alliance of Baptists is an association of Baptist churches and individuals in the United States . It was founded in 1987 by Baptists who split off from the Southern Baptist Convention during a dispute between fundamentalists and modernists in the 1980s.

The goals of the Alliance of Baptists are freedom, ecumenism, theological instruction, and social and economic justice. In contrast to the Southern Baptist Convention, the Alliance of Baptists introduced the ordination of women , as did the Progressive National Baptist Convention .

The Alliance of Baptists cooperates with the US National Council of Churches, the United Church of Christ , the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the World Council of Churches .

On August 25, 2005, there were 125 parishes in the Alliance. The Alliance of Baptists has missions in various countries. The Alliance has a President, a Vice President and a Secretariat as a governance structure.
