Efstratios Apostolakis ( Greek Ευστράτιος Αποστολάκης , born May 11, 1964 in Agrinio , Greece ) is a former Greek football player .
Efstratios Apostolakis, who played in the position of right-back, is considered to be one of the best Greek defenders of all time. During his career he played for the top Greek clubs Olympiacos Piraeus and Panathinaikos Athens and was able to collect a number of titles. His move from Piraeus to Athens ensured that the final of the Greek Supercup of 1990 had to be canceled for fear of riots on the part of Olympiacos fans who refused to forgive the move to arch rivals. At Panathinaikos, Apostolakis experienced his most successful phase in sport. In addition to three Greek championships (1991, 1995, 1996) and four cup wins (1991, 1993, 1994, 1995), he and his team caused a sensation in the 1995/1996 season when Panathinaikos made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League . Overall, Apostolakis came to 249 first division appearances in which he was able to achieve 21 goals.
Efstratios Apostolakis played a total of 96 times for the Greek national soccer team and scored five goals. His 96 nominations were the Greek record from 1996 to 2004, before Theodoros Zagorakis topped it. In 1994 Apostolakis took part in the 1994 World Cup in the United States .
After his active career, Apostolakis took over as interim trainer for Panathinaikos Athens in early 2001. In 2004 he was in charge of Greece's Olympic selection at the Olympic Games in Athens . In the summer of 2005 he took over the post of sports director at Panathinaikos. Since September 2006 he has been working as a scout for Panathinaikos .
