Alliance No to new nuclear power plants
The Alliance No to New Nuclear Power Plants (formerly: Allianz Stop Atom) is an association of 36 environmental organizations, political parties and other interest groups from Switzerland and its neighboring countries. It came about as a reaction to the plans of the Swiss electricity companies Axpo , Atel and BKW to build new nuclear power plants . Its aim is to prevent the planned construction and promote energy efficiency and renewable energies. The cornerstone of the network is a joint declaration signed in August 2007. On December 4, 2008, the alliance announced that it would hold an optional referendum if the Swiss Parliament approves the submitted general license applications for the construction of three new nuclear power plants in Switzerland . If she succeeds in collecting the necessary signatures and winning the resulting referendum, the new construction of nuclear power plants in Beznau , Gösgen and Mühleberg planned by the electricity companies Atel, Axpo and BKW would not be possible until further notice.
