Almaqah

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Almaqah ( Old South Arabian 'lmqh (w) , reconstructed Almaqah (U) , or Ilmuqāh , DMG 'Almaqāh (U) / 'Ilmuqāh ) was the Sabean Reich God and probably a moon god; the nickname "bull of the master country" shows that he was also responsible for the naturally fertile land. In the early days he represented the Sabaean state together with the Mukarrib and the Saba tribe. Although he played a central role in Saba, he was always named after Athtar in invocations to the gods . The symbols "bull" and "club" ( killers ) are assigned to him. His most important temple was the Awwam in the Sabaean capital Marib , other important temples were in Naschq , after submission in Naschan , on the Jabal Laudh , in Sirwah and in al-Masajid .
