Almatyelektrotrans (abbreviation AET ; Russian Алматыэлектротранс ) is the transport company in the Kazakh city of Almaty .

Almatyelektrotrans operates eight trolleybus routes and various bus routes. The last two tram lines had to be abandoned in October 2015 due to ailing infrastructure and several accidents with trams.

In May 2009 the company was approved by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development a loan of ten million US dollars granted for the modernization and improvement of the company. In addition, the governments of Germany , the Netherlands , Austria and Singapore made a total of 900,000 euros available.

The last used vehicle types T4D, T3D and KT4D of the Czech tram manufacturer Tatra were used in German cities before their arrival in Kazakhstan .
