The Škoda 14Tr is a trolleybus from the (then) Czechoslovak manufacturer Škoda . 14 is the serial number, the abbreviation Tr stands for Trolejbus .

The vehicle type replaced the previous Škoda 9Tr series and was used by many trolleybus operators in Eastern Europe . In the GDR vehicles came to the factories in Weimar , Eberswalde and Potsdam . A total of around 3500 trolleybuses of this type were built, with the Škoda 14Tr used in the GDR being brought together in Potsdam from around 1985.

The Škoda 14Tr vehicles have been modernized at many companies and are now referred to as the Škoda 14TrM. An articulated tram version based on the Škoda 14Tr was later produced under the name Škoda 15Tr and is used in Ostrava, Pilsen, Riga, Tallinn, Ústí nad Labem and Vilnius, among others.

A special feature are the 240 cars of the 14TrSF variant for the San Francisco trolleybus , SF stands for San Francisco. Among other things, they received their electrical equipment from Kiepe and were assembled by the American company Electric Transit Incorporation . 57 similar vehicles from the 14TrE sub-series operate in Dayton . Both sub-series are only two-door, in San Francisco the rear entrance is missing, in Dayton the middle one.

Another special feature is the operation on the Crimean peninsula , where type 14Tr cars from the Krymskyj trolejbus company are used on the longest trolleybus line in the world. Special features of the vehicles there are their additional fog lights , the permanently locked middle door, the 2 + 2 seating and the curtains inside the vehicle .

On the other hand, the operation of 14Tr trolleybus double traction could not prevail . However, the manufacturer Škoda carried out a series of tests in this regard in Hradec Králové in 1986 with a 14Tr train developed for the Soviet Union, which later also took test drives in Kiev.

The Škoda 14Tr is a two-axle high - floor trolleybus for regular services with three doors. The floor has a height of 750 mm and is welded together from thin-walled steel profiles, the roof is also built in the same way. The floor and roof are protected against corrosion. The axles of the bus are pneumatically suspended and have hydraulic shock absorbers. The bus is driven by a four - pole thyristor - controlled DC machine , which delivers a continuous output of 100 kW at 1540 min −1 . The traction voltage is 600 V.

The trolleybuses have 23 seats and 75 standing places and reach a top speed of 65 km / h.
