Vilnius trolleybus
The Vilnius trolleybus is one of two trolleybus systems in Lithuania . The larger network in the capital Vilnius is run by the transport company UAB Vilniaus viešasis transportas , a successor company of UAB Vilniaus troleibusai . It has 310 trolleybuses, of which 231 are in use on weekdays and Saturdays, as well as 122 on Sundays and public holidays. A total of 22 lines with a total length of 513.6 kilometers are currently served. The transport performance is 42,013 kilometers and more than 200,000 passengers daily.
history
In 1956 the company was officially founded. At that time, there were 20 trolleybuses in the depot , which is located in Antakalnis. The first route was 7.8 kilometers long and led from Antakalnis to Vilnius train station . It was opened on November 3, 1956 and operated with seven MTB-82D cars.
A year later, the second line was opened between Žvėrynas and the train station. In 1960 Vilniaus troleibusai began buying new trolleybuses of the type 8Tr , which was replaced a few years later by the successor series Škoda 9Tr . In 1961 there were already 120 trolleybuses in stock.
In the following years more new lines were built. In 1967 there were already 13 lines with a total length of 217 kilometers. Due to the increasing number of passengers and the growth of the city of Vilnius, the number of trolleybuses grew steadily. In 1967 there were 159 trolleybuses, and in 1982 there were 278. Due to the lack of space in the Antakalnis depot, a second depot was opened in Viršuliškės on December 25, 1985 . At that time there were already 297 cars in operation.
From 1982 Vilniaus troleibusai started modernizing the fleet and bought the first Škoda 14Tr . Another 60 cars of this type followed in 1996 and 1997, and in 1999 Škoda also delivered 23 cars of the modified version 14TrM .
Between 2004 and 2006, Vilniaus troleibusai leased 45 new low-floor wagons of the Solaris Trollino 15 AC type .
After the merger with UAB Vilniaus autobusai , UAB Vilniaus troleibusai became the new company UAB Vilniaus viešasis transportas on November 4th, 2011 .
On November 11, 2011, Vilniaus viešasis transportas presented the first Lithuanian trolleybus of the Amber Vilnis 12 AC type . The components of the self-built vehicle come from Belarus , the Czech Republic , Poland and Germany . Vehicles of this series have been used in regular services since the beginning of 2012.
