Almpiferl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Almpiferl is an Austrian folk musical instrument from the group of beak flutes , in terms of design and playing style comparable to a baroque treble recorder . The addition of the name Brucker Alumpfiferl refers to the town of Bruck an der Mur in Styria . In Styrian folk music, the alpine fiferl was popular from the 19th century to around 1930.

The soft, delicate and breathy tone resembles an Irish tin whistle . Only in the higher registers does the sound resemble a Schwegel whistle .
