Alois Amann

Alois Amann (born December 23, 1864 in Hohenems ; † March 7, 1932 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP ) and embroidery manufacturer. From 1902 to 1914 and from 1918 to 1923 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1913 to 1919 mayor of Hohenems.

Live and act

Amann founded an embroidery company in Hohenems in 1896 and in 1924 became a substitute for the director of the Vorarlberg mortgage bank. He was the founder of the Christian Social Party Hohenems and acted as chairman of this local party group. After Amann ran in the state elections in Vorarlberg in 1902, he was sworn in as a member of the rural communities for the Feldkirch - Dornbirn electoral district in the Vorarlberg state parliament and was a member of the state parliament until 1923. Before the First World War he was a member of the Finance Committee, a member of the Electoral Reform Committee and a member of the Economics Committee, where he chaired the Finance Committee in 1908 as chairman. Between 1914 and 1918 the state parliament was not convened as a result of the outbreak of World War I, after which Amann was a member of the provisional Vorarlberg state assembly from November 3, 1918. In 1919 he was re-elected as a member of the regular Landtag in the Feldkirch constituency and was a member of the Landtag until November 5, 1923. Between 1919 and 1923 he was a member and chairman of the finance committee, he was also a member of the finance and tax committee as well as the economic committee and the committee for road and hydraulic engineering.

In addition to his work as a member of the state parliament, Amann was a substitute member for Johann Kohler and Josef Ölz in the state committee from 1903 to 1914. He then acted as a substitute member for Otto Ender in the state council from 1918 to 1919 and was then a substitute member for Franz Loser in the state government until 1923. He was mayor of Hohenems from June 1913 to May 1919 and was a member of the Catholic workers' association. He was also a founding member of the Vorarlberg Gymnastics and Athletes Association and the Vorarlberger Rheingau, where he held leading positions in both associations. Amann was also a councilor in the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce.

Private

Amann was born the son of the farmer and weaver Gottfried Amann (1827–1914) and his wife Franziska Vogel (1833–1916). His parents were born in Hohenems and died there. Alois Amann married Ottilie Mathis (1869–1961) from Lustenau on August 28, 1893 in Götzis and subsequently became the father of five daughters and three sons.
