AlphaSphere is the product name of a relaxation room , the concept of which was developed between 2004 and 2006 by the Viennese artist Andreas Rodler ("sha."). The concept includes a lying object ( AlphaLiege ), a suspended fabric cover ( AlphaRaum ) and various sound compositions ( AlphaPrograms ). The installation is intended to support its user while relaxing through a combination of sensory stimuli (especially light, sound, warmth and vibration).

concept

Rodler states that he was inspired to do this work in the House of Music in Vienna when he set up a sound room ( Sonosphere ) with sensory impressions from the womb. While, according to his description, children responded strongly to it and lay down on the sounding and vibrating floor, adults would have reacted rather cautiously. In order to make this experience accessible to adults as well, Rodler developed an AlphaLounger together with the Institut für perception research GmbH in Vienna within two years and then the overall AlphaSphere concept . The concept of the lying object aims to stimulate the senses and to merge sensory impressions, and thus to help to break away from everyday life.

In the idea of tobogganers, the following elements of the lounger are important: the blue color should attract and radiate calm, the shape should accommodate and carry the user, sound clouds should stimulate perception, the user should be surrounded by light and feel secure on the warm surface of the lounger loosen the body, be touched by vibrations and swing in rhythm with the breath.

Rodler sees the AlphaSphere as a work of art and a ritual of perception that is not geared towards a specific application or market. It is used as a design object in the private sector, exhibited as a work of art in public museums and generally used as a relaxation device.
