Alsion in Sønderborg

The Alsion is a regional center for research, education and culture in the southern Danish town Sønderborg .

history

The building was inaugurated in 2007 and was one of the largest construction projects in the region in recent years. It is right on Als Sund across from Sønderborg's old town. The name is derived from the island of Als opposite . The building itself is on Sundeved . The Alsion was designed by the architects 3xNielsen in Aarhus . The Danfoss Group made a significant contribution to the construction of the structure.

use

Since 2007 the regional institutions of the Syddansk Universitet have been united in Alsion , the Sønderborg department of which emerged in 1998 from the former Handelshøjskole Syd . The Institute for Grænseregionsforskning , which was assigned to the university in 2003 and had been independent until then , was also transferred here from Aabenraa . Numerous new institutions have been added since 1999. The focus of work lies in the fields of engineering, nanotechnology, economics and the linguistic area. We work particularly closely with the universities in Flensburg , with which there are joint international courses of study, which, like the high proportion of foreign students, give the campus a special flair.

In addition, Alsion has been home to the Sønderjylland Symfoniorkester since 2007 . The concert hall is one of the acoustically best new venues of its kind in all of Northern Europe.

There is also a public café with a view of the sound and the city.
