history
The old pharmacy was built in 1608 by the tanner David Gille Anthoine on the foundation walls of the Cistercian monastery (see Otterberg Abbey ). Walloon and Flemish carpenters developed their shipbuilding skills on what is believed to be the oldest town house in the Palatinate. In the attic there is a wooden cross anchor that holds the four uprights (corners) of the house together.
It was restored after a fire in 1634. The pharmacy was owned by Michel Haydweyler in 1658. In the next two centuries, a few owners changed who also used the building as a pharmacy. After the last owner, Buchert, sold the house to the city of Otterberg, it was renovated again.
In 1982 it was used on the ground floor as a tourist information center, on the first and second floors as a library and the third floor as a teaching and community room. In 2012 it was sold and used as a restaurant / bistro. On the ground floor there is a monastery room with 30 seats.
The Alte Apotheke is four years older than the neighboring Blue House.
