history
The 600 year old town house under the Schattenburg was probably rebuilt in the 17th century and rebuilt in the 18th century. From 1615 to 1790 the building was used as a city chancellery and a rural archive. From 1857 to 1912 it was used as the main customs office. The building was acquired by Marte.Marte Architects from the city council in 2015 , renovated and has served as their architecture office since 2016 .
architecture
The main front to the city has an attached double-sided flight of stairs with a raised entrance in the central axis with a segment arch portal with a lunette grille and a door wing from the second half of the 18th century. The main facade is structured with corner pilasters, a mansard roof and windows with plug-in grilles.
Architecturally, little was changed during the renovation of the building. What is new is a steel construction, which is not visible on the main front on the city side, and on the one hand illuminates the converted attic and on the other hand enables a view of the Schattenburg from there.
