The old chapel in Laatzen near Hanover is a historic place of worship. It is located at Alte Rathausstraße 40 and belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Immanuel parish.

history

The old chapel in Laatzen is the southernmost building of the North German brick Gothic . It is also the oldest building in Laatzen. The chapel was mentioned in a document as early as 1325. In 1529 the church became Protestant. During the Second World War , the chapel burned to the ground in 1943 and was rebuilt in its original state in 1953/54, except for the windows and the roof turret. The inauguration took place on March 21, 1954.

Church building

The chapel is a gem of brick art. While the church building was practically faithfully restored after the Second World War, there were some changes in the interior to the chapel from the 14th century. The flat wooden ceiling was replaced by a wooden barrel vault. The altar window shows the resurrection of Christ and dates from 1954. The bell from 1954 is still rung by hand today. The liturgical implements of the church come from Siegfried Zimmermann .

Individual evidence

  1. “In 1308 the von Laatzen family first sold their mill, a house and then their fishing rights. All goods inside and outside the settlement came into the possession of the Marienrode monastery in 1350 . The construction or expansion of the chapel mentioned in 1325 and 1392 definitely verifiable in the place by the Cistercian order is conceivable. A Marian patronage is also possible, as the Mother of God is the patroness of the order and the diocese of Hildesheim. ”Willi Stoffers: Handbuch des Dioceses Hildesheim Part 2 - Region Hannover . Hildesheim 1995. p. 59
