The locks of 1844

The old locks of Trollhättan ( Sweden ) bypass the waterfalls of Göta älv .

The first completed lock staircase, designed by Nils Ericsson, was put into operation in 1800 and consists of 13 stages. The successors from 1832 and 1844 were designed similarly and were partially used in parallel until 1916. The locks from 1832 became part of the Trollhätte Canal , which is nicknamed the “blue ribbon”. This was completed in the same year by Baltzar von Platen .
