Dorothea of ​​Denmark and Norway (born November 10, 1520 , † May 31, 1580 in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz ) was the wife of Elector Friedrich II of the Palatinate .

Her parents were King Christian II of Denmark and Norway and Isabella of Austria , the daughter of King Philip I of Spain. Dorothea was thus a niece of Emperor Charles V.

In 1535 she married Friedrich II of the Palatinate in Heidelberg, who resided in Heidelberg from 1544 to 1556 as Elector of the Palatinate. The wedding celebrations at Heidelberg Castle were described in a detailed poem by Peter Harer .

Dorothea had employed her own preacher named Otmar Stab (around 1507–1585) at the electoral court. After the death of her husband in 1556, she lived in the Count Palatinate Castle in Neumarkt, where she prevented the introduction of the Reformed denomination (Calvinism) as a staunch supporter of Luther, as a staunch supporter of Luther, in terms of denominational policy - also in cooperation with the later Elector Ludwig VI . This had Elector Friedrich III. Introduced in the Electoral Palatinate in 1563. Dorothea's personal doctor was the Nuremberg city doctor Melchior Ayrer from 1570 until her death.

She died childless and was buried with her husband in the Heiliggeistkirche in Heidelberg .
