In personnel lists and valuation registers , the rope-making is documented from 1648 to 1759 in the Oesteren city quarter . In 1848 there were six rope factories in Rüthen, three in 1805 and two in 1900, including Hartmann in Seilerweg. The rope-making trade was one of the trades that did not belong to any guild . The last rope maker was Josef Hartmann, whose company closed in 1937.

The brick-built building is elongated. It has been restored, and inside there are a number of devices and tools necessary for rope-making.
