Old Synagogue (Brody)
The Old Synagogue in Brody , a western Ukrainian city in Lviv Oblast , was built in 1742. The synagogue is a protected cultural monument .
After the attack on the Soviet Union in 1941, almost all of the approximately 9,000 Jewish residents of Brody were initially used for forced labor over the next three years of German occupation. From December 1942 they were locked in a ghetto and then murdered.
The outer walls of the old school , as the synagogue was called by the Jews, are still standing. It was used as a warehouse until the 1960s. After a fire, the ruins were left to deteriorate.
